Caribbean Tourism Month 2011 Awards!

In November 2011, The French Saint-Martin Tourism Office scheduled a series of events to celebrate the « Caribbean Tourism Month » on the theme One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean.

The objective of the « Caribbean Tourism Month » is to celebrate the diversity of what the Caribbean offers and to raise awareness among Caribbean people on the importance of tourism to the island the region.

Amongst the different events during which the population was invited to get to know the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office team and gain knowledge of the actions to promote the destination, 2 contests were organized:
- A photo contest: open to amateurs and professionals on theme One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean and for which participants had to send photographs of the island related to the theme.
- A Clean Up contest in collaboration with the association Sandy Ground on the Move. The main goal is to create awareness among the population that will positively improve the environment for our pleasure and our visitors.

The French Saint-Martin Tourism Office welcomed the contestants for the Caribbean Tourism Month 2011 Awards ceremony.

alexpuce-bleue In the category « amateur » :

1st prize : Alexandre Guerre for his picture taken at the entrance of a small alley in Grand Case between 2 colorful buildings leading to a deck on the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Alexandre Guerre wins a HD digital camera offered by the Indian Merchant Association des Commerçants, 70 hours of training offered by the training institute For’IDN, 1 ad in the 17th edition of the magazine Nature 2013, his photo on Destination Saint-Martin Facebook fanpage and profil and on the websites of the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office and many gifts.

2nd prize : Liliane Magnin with a picture taken in Happy Bay.
Liliane Magnin gets a dinner for 2 offered the restaurant Le Tropicana, 35 hours hours of trainig offered by the training institute For’IDN, 1 ad in the 17th edition of the magazine Nature 2013, his photo on Destination Saint-Martin Facebook fanpage and profil and on the websites of the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office and many gifts.

3rd prize : Manuella Brooks with a photo of local musicians performing in the streets.
Manuella Brooks receives a day at sea offered by Winner Touch, 31 hours of trainig offered by the training institute For’IDN, 1 ad in the 17th edition of the magazine Nature 2013, his photo on Destination Saint-Martin Facebook fanpage and profil and on the websites of the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office and many gifts.

The winner is Jean-Sébastien Lavocat with an amazing photography taken from a pond in Grand Case.
This photography is a real getaway and combines Saint-Martin’s history and caracteristics with the coconuts trees, the hills, the blue sky and the pond where salt was harvested years ago… Jean-Sébastien Lavocat explains that he shot that picture 5 or 6 years ago and was absolutely amazed by the beauty of the site. He says that when he took it, he was even more impressed when he says a fish coming to the surface and creating small waves precisely when he pressed on the button. He says about this photography that : “every time I look at it makes him shudder just like when he shot it…”.

The Conseil de quartier N°4 (Galisbay, Marigot, Concordia, Hameau du Pont, Agrément) presided over by Ms Rosette Gumbs has collected with volunteers 7 garbage trucks of 500kg each representing over 3,5 tons of rubbish. The Conseil de quartier N°4 gets a special prize from the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office and 30 plants, trees and flowers offered by the boutique Jardin Passion that will embellish their neighbourhood.

The Conseil de quartier N°6 presided over Gregory Richardson aka Beijan, also President of the Association Sandy Ground on the Move receives a special prize from the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office for his involvment and lending material.

BTLP and Mr Pillah is also thanked for the making available 13 garbage trucks.

 

The French Saint-Martin Tourism Office would like to thank once again all the volunteers and all the ones who made this « Caribbean Tourism Month 2011 » a success and is looking forward to 2012 edition!
