This year, CHA Marketplace was held in Montego Bay Jamaica from January 16 -18th.
CHA Marketplace is one of the most important event of the year for the Caribbean destinations because it is a congregation of stakeholders in the tourism industry from all over the world meeting in one place.
The Saint-Martin Tourist Office was represented by: Silviane John, Director and Aida Weinum, US Representative along with 8 hoteliers.
Hotels such as Alamanda, Esmeralda, La Plantation, Grand Case Beach Club, Beach Plaza, Le Flamboyant, Radisson, Captain’s Oliver attended this 2 day event.
This show was the opportunity for the hoteliers and the Saint-Martin Tourist Office to exchange their feedbacks and to share how to better sell the destination with tour operators, travel agents and press. Improvement have been made in our numbers for 2011 but very modest because of the economic downtown.
For two full days of appointments Mrs John and Aida Weinum met with stakeholders such as; Expedia, Travel Impression, Apple Vacation, Air Canada Vacations, Transat Holiday, Orbitz Worldwide, Caribbean Travel & Life, Saveur Magazine, Trip Advisor, Travelocity, MLT Vacations, Thomas Cook North America.
French Saint-Martin received a Choice award from the readers of Caribbean Travel and Life magazine for “Best Shopping”.
According to the director Silviane John: “it was a business working show that will assist us in planning and forecasting for the upcoming year. We were happy with the turnout of several hotels that participated from the French side”.
The Tourist Office also received an award on behalf of Le Marquis Hotel for the best website for a hotel of less than 20 rooms from TravelMole the online community for the Travel and Tourism Industry. According to TravelMole the purple colouring adds to the sense of “boutique and unique”
