CAPTAIN OLIVER'S REGATTA 2011
On May 20th, “The 7th Annual Captain Oliver’s Regatta” will kick off to a start in Captain Oliver’s Marina, Oyster Pond, with three days of fun and action packed sailing, presented by Coors Light as the main sponsor and partner in the event.
The regatta will be held in the memory of Captain Oliver, who passed away in September 2010.
The Captain Oliver's Regatta will occur during the week-end of May 20th, 21st and 22d.
The sails of the first regatta were hoisted in 2005 by Olivier Lange, alias Captain Oliver, for local sailors from mainly St. Maarten/St. Martin and St. Barths. Since then it has become a yearly returning 3-day event scheduled in mid-May, with several categories, such as Racing monohull, Bareboat, Performance monohull, Cruising monohull, Racing multihull, Cruising multihull, Beachcat and Corporate Challenge. The organizing committee is aiming at approximately 30-35 entries.
The Corporate Challenge is a “race within the race” where participating companies/entrants will compete against each other on identical 44’ bareboats in their own class during the regatta (chartered from Sunsail). The yacht can carry up to 10 persons and must include at least one person with appropriate sailing experience, though professional skippers can be sourced by organizers in case the entrant cannot provide one.
The courses for this year’s regatta will be the traditional course around St. Martin scheduled for Saturday and Sunday’s course will be set in the St. Barths Channel.
With Coors Light presenting the regatta, the picturesque surroundings of the Marina and the great atmosphere of Captain Oliver’s Restaurant, The 7th Annual Captain Oliver’s Regatta is guaranteed to live up to its theme “La joie de vivre” and provide a weekend of great entertainment and festivity – On water and on land.
